In April, I moved into a small historic home in the Willo District in Phoenix. I have fallen in love with this tiny, cozy, little home. There is very small sitting room located next to the kitchen that has the most wonderful light. It is my favorite room in the house. Gracie and Rascal love to spend time in this room. Since it faces the street, they can watch the world go by and bark at people walking their dogs, the mailman, and the Willo cats that meander around the neighborhood. Like all dogs, when Gracie and Rascal get tired or bored of guarding the window, they take a nap.
I love taking photographs of my animals sleeping. They look so peaceful and happy. One afternoon I photographed Gracie and Rascal sleeping on the same doggie bed. Just like people, they change positions, roll over and stretch out. Rascal is a mini version of Gracie. They have different ears and tails, but their markings are the same. They looked so funny and sweet sleeping next to each other. And although they never touched while they were sleeping, they were connected and in their own little world. I love capturing unguarded moments. They are some of the most intimate and revealing portraits in my opinion. I titled this series of photographs Sleeping Arrangements.
